Hi! Welcome to the Village Flower Farm!
My name is Laura Skidmore, and I’m your local flower farmer. I’ve been a gardener and hobby farmer for most of my adult life, and now I’m turning that experience into a profession. I love to experience the seasons on the farm – how one season rolls into another, and how nature marks the passage of time through seasonal changes. It’s an amazing rhythm, from the return of redwing blackbirds in spring to the magical fireflies of summer and the first snow of winter.
I’m married to Seth, and we have two daughters – one starting high school and the other starting kindergarten in 2020. 😳 We also have two German Shepherds, Ivy and Major, who sometimes keep me company while I’m working on the farm.
I’m a high school Spanish teacher who has been a stay-at-home mom for the last six years. I’m going back to work as a Spanish teacher this year, and I have to tell you, it’s a really weird time to get back into teaching! Lots of stress and uncertainty around education right now, both as a mom and as a teacher. If you have school-age kids, I know you can relate!
My flower farm dream started in September 2019, when I was on a trip to Spain with my younger daughter. (I’ll tell you more about that another time.) I spent all fall and winter researching flower farming and looking for the right piece of land. Everything came together in February like it was just meant to be! This year has been a whirlwind of activity to get the farm ready and open, but I am loving every minute of it.
This farm truly is a dream for me. I have big plans to expand for next year – including adding a driveway for on-farm parking, doubling the growing area, and expanding the sunflowers.
This dream is just beginning. ❤️ I hope you’ll come along and share the journey with me!
Angelina will be joining the farm this fall to help me keep things running while I’m in the classroom teaching high school Spanish. More information and her photo are coming soon. I’m excited to have her working with me!
